Bumped to the front page.
It's over, Stanford dominates once again for its 17th straight title, winning by nearly 300 points. Ohio St came in second, followed by California and Florida, and the ACC had 4 schools in the top ten. BYU finished 37th followed by TCU, New Mexico and Utah. But I was curious to see the break down per conference and see how the 2010 and 2012 MWC would rank, so first I calculated how the conference looked this last year before the realignment and then what it would look like after, and here's what I found (AQ's, CUSA, and MWC only, nobody else is even close).
Conference-Total-Average
2010-11 Conferences
Pac10 - 8,189.3 - 818.93
BigTen - 8,000.65 - 727.33
ACC - 8,010 - 667.5
SEC - 7,795.55 - 649.62
B12 - 7,328.6 - 610.71
BEfb only - 2,561.80 - 320.22
BE all- 4867.50 - 303.87
MWC - 2,424.05 - 258.22
CUSA - 1925.75 - 160.47
Future 2012 Conferences
Pac12 - 8,770.80 - 730.9
B1G - 8,634.65 - 719.55
ACC - 8,010 - 667.5
SEC - 7,795.55 - 649.62
B12-2 - 6,379.10 - 637.91
BEfb only - 2957.05 - 328.56
BE all - 5,262.75 - 309.57
MWC - 1,574.55 - 174.95
CUSA - 1925.75 - 160.47
So what I've gathered, the Big 12 lost a middle of the road school in overall athletics (Nebraska) and a below average one (Colorado), so their score's will go up slightly, conversely both the Pac12 and B1G's scores will decline slightly since they were already way above average and are simply diluting their scores by adding anything less than stellar schools. But most noticeable is how far the MWC has fallen with the loss of BYU and TCU. Utah's score (266) is basically offset by Boise St's (228) but Nevada (63) and Fresno's (200) can't make up for the loss of TCU (295.29) and BYU (579.55). All in all the Big 12-2 is still a competitive conference in line with the other 4 major conferences, the Big East is still at the bottom of the AQ's no matter how you slice it, and the Mountain West suffered a huge blow by losing BYU and TCU to a lesser extent.
So who could the MWC add in order to improve its standings? There are a few reasonable options...
Tulsa- 397
Denver- 384.5
SMU- 331.50
UC Irvine - 238
While I'm not advocating adding these schools based on this information alone, it certainly doesn't hurt, but obviously getting BYU back would help the most.
