2011 Mountain West Media Days: Predicting The All-Conference Team
The Mountain West Conference media days are forthcoming on July 26-27 and since I do not have a vote for the preseason awards I thought I would share my thoughts on who would be on my ballot if I had one.
QB Kellen Moore, Boise State
RB Ronnie Hillman, San Diego State
RB Doug Martin, Boise State
WR Phillip Payne, UNLV
WR Josh Boyce, TCU
TE Lucas Reed, New Mexico
OT Nate Potter, Boise State
OG Paul Madsen, Colorado State
C Thomas Byrd, Boise State
OG Jason Kons, Air Force
OT Tommie Drahime, San Diego State
DL Shea McClellin, Boise State
DL Billy Winn, Boise State
DL D.J. Yendry, TCU
DL Josh Biezuns, Wyoming
LB Miles Burris, San Diego State
LB Tank Carder, TCU
LB Mychal Sisson, Colorado State
DB Leon McFadden, San Diego State
DB Tashun Gipson, Wyoming
DB Jon Davis, Air Force
DB Will Chandler, UNLV
The quarterback position was a tough one because San Diego State's Ryan Lindley and Air Force's Tim Jefferson have a real shot at being the first team quarterback, but it all depends on how the season ends up. Lindley needs to find a new set of receivers and that could make a big difference in his success. As for Jefferson he will most likely need to lead Air Force to the Mountain West title and will need to combine for 3,000 yards in rushing and passing.
Picking only two running backs was tough as well, but the choices I made were kind of obvious. Air Force's Asher Clark and TCU's Ed Wesley have a shot to make the first team. Wyoming's Alvester Alexander is more of a longshot due to being on a Wyoming team that will struggle to become bowl eligible, however with a true freshman at quarterback Alexander will rack up the yards and could possibly put up the numbers to earn first team honors.

The only glaring omission I see is Maponga...
Why no love for Stansly?

It was a toss up for me between Yendrey and Maponga for the last spot. I don’t think either is a wrong choice.

I think Boise State will end up with 2 of the best DBs in conference
in George Iloka, S, and Jamar Taylor, CB.
Wasnt sure on Iloka, I think he will be good and have a shot. Kind of a gut feeling with picking Tashun Gipson who did have five picks last year

I think George had a couple of interceptions last year, but what's impressive is his number of solo tackles
He lead the team with 49 I believe. He’s a solid tackler and great cover guy.

Taking off one of those LB’s will be tough.

I like the picks but
agree George Iloka is worthy, he gets it done, but like you say, who gets taken off? I would like to see you do somethng like this with the special teams, also.

I think Lindley would be the "true" competitor for QB, Jefferson is excellent, but the triple option IMO ruins the quarterback position in a lot of ways

Really, if, as someone said on OBNUG, all 3 QBs have similar numbers this year as last year
There’s no competition. Kellen will own that one.

Kellen Moore is going to be the choice but Lindley and Jefferson have a shot.
