2011 NFL Draft: Titans Offensive Staff Want TCU's Andy Dalton At No. 8

TCU's Andy Dalton has been rising up the charts and earlier today ESPN's NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert had Dalton going to the Vikings with the 12th overall pick which seems a bit high. The Bengals seem to have been high on Dalton for a while now and in some mocks have the Bengals trading back into the tail end of the first round to grab Dalton.

Star-divide

Now the Tennessee Titans are looking at taking Dalton with the 8th overall pick:

Several league sources said the Titans are high on Dalton and consider him to be an elite prospect who carries less of the varied risk of other quarterbacks in this draft. One source indicated the offensive coaches in Tennessee are pushing for Dalton, while the defensive staff is high on Auburn defensive lineman Nick Fairley.

Dalton has received lots of late interest, with teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins scheduling private workouts. I wouldn't be surprised if the Titans took Dalton eighth overall, nor would I be shocked if he was the second quarterback selected.

The Titans do need a quarterback in the worst way with Vince Young not on the team any more and only the veteran Kerry Collins as a realistic option. The Titans could wait on a quarterback, but they could risk on not getting a player who is near-ready to play right away.

It is starting to look like Andy Dalton is going to be moving into the top half of the first round, but watch on draft day he goes in the third round.

Off to Andy Dalton’s house for the draft this week. Tune in to ESPN Thursday night for Round 1!!

I would say things are going pretty well for Dalton these days…

Whoa, slow down there.

First he needs to cash the check. I’m sure the price tag on that one’s pretty steep. ;)

Hope he goes high...

Was very disappointed Colt fell to the 3rd, look how Clausen is doing compared to him now. Titans would be sweet they just need some WRs but Chris Johnson is a beast.

I think Fairly's the better prospect overall

But the Titans desperately need a serviceable QB. If I were them I’d get Fairly at 8 when he’s most likely to be on the board and trade up to the mid first for Dalton.

not a Fairly fan...

and yes I watched the MNC, but I think he may be a bust that high in the draft (not saying he’s bad just overhyped) that being said if he was still on the board I’d trade with someone who really wanted him and get even more value for that pick assuming the CBA extension allows it since picks are counted as future players and not potential assets (which is dumb)…we know the Titans need a bunch of work but the top of my list is QB (assuming they get rid of VY which I’m not 100% convinced now that Fischer is gone) and WR.

If Fairley gets his head on straight, I think he’s a monstrous talent. That said, I don’t think he will and I’d rather draft someone who I know really wants to play and won’t rack up game changing penalties and fines.

After watching Fairley on the Gruden Camp on ESPN

I def became a fan. Going into it I assumed he was dumb as a box of rocks and after watching it… well, I still think he is dumb as a box of rocks but you know how people can say someone isn’t book smart but they are street smart? Well that is Fairley, he’s just got that football smarts and natural instinct that combined with his insane quickness will make him a star in the NFL. I’m not sure he’s the next Warren Sapp or anything but he’s def got a few Pro Bowls in his future imo.

Fairley

I think he should go number one since Panthers need so much help and Fairley should be able to step in right away and contribute.

Dalton's draft stock is really rising quickly.

Although I don’t think the Titans go through with picking him at eight. I see them picking Fairley and then trading up to get Dalton in the late-to-mid first round.

Dalton

Only way he gets taken that high is if teams get in a bidding war by keep moving up.

I think the court’s ruling on the NFL lockout has a lot to do with it. If the court rules that the NFL must re-open business for trades and free agents and such, then that will really hurt a guy like Dalton. Tennessee is the perfect landing spot for a guy like Kyle Orton. But, if teams can’t make trades of players, that will only help any QB prospect move up the boards.

How about those grades? Well, there's an A in alcohol, a B in beer. C is for Miss Carter, who we love so dear. D is for drunk, and there ain't no E, so F's for Forever Clear.
