MWC Tournament Seeding gives us Round One NCAA Tournament elimination game

After the regular season concluded last night, the Mountain West Tournament bracket was set. BYU and San Diego State shared the Regular Season Conference Championship, but BYU held the tiebreaker and receives the #1 seed. UNLV checks in at the #3 seed after their road throttling of Utah. Colorado State and New Mexico are the 3 and 5 seeds, respectively. Air Force owns the 6 seed, Utah owns the 7 seed, and Wyoming will play TCU in the play-in game as the 8 and 9 seeds, respectively.

To keep things easy to understand, each game will have a name (Such as, Game #1).

Two of the first round games on Thursday will be a simulcast of The Mtn. by CBS College. That way you can see Colorado State vs. New Mexico or UNLV vs. Air Force even if you don't have The Mtn. (Not that you would want to to stay up until 8:30 P.M. PT to watch UNLV play Air Force).

I'm not sure why the Mountain West has decided to make their games so late. People in the Eastern and Central time zones simply are not going to stay up past midnight to watch a Mountain West team that they haven't been able to see all season long.

So in the first round, we actually have a important game that should turn out to be really good. Colorado State plays New Mexico and the winner gets their chance at BYU. If the winner can upset BYU, then they most likely will be in the NCAA Tournament.

Time slot issues
At least UNLV gets a bit screwed on time slot since it is a home tournament for them. They could play 3 games in less then 3 days. Or Air Force, but not likely.
Good call on the late games though. If the championship game is at 4PT why don’t the semi finals start at that time?
What a crappy week to get a job. I am going to miss the Rams and Lobos game now. If they win I will be able to catch the game on Friday at least.

Part of the reason is because the women’s tournament is at the same time. They need to start that thing on Monday and end on Thursday.
An 830 pacific tip for a semifinal game that will probably be UNLV vs. SDSU will not be seen by many and should be a great game.
No reason those games could not be a 2pm and 5pm pacific tip.

It sucks for me being a UNLV fan.
I live in the central time zone and will not be able to stay up past midnight to watch the games.

Nice to see the MWC...
once again making fans look for the games, with a different network televising each day of the tournament.
Also, am I the only one who hates play-in games? I think you should either you make the tournament or you don’t. What is this, Little League? (I feel the same way for the NCAA tournament.)
Resign ≠ Re-sign
It works for 9 teams
It would be a bit weird if one team sat out of the tournament. Gives the seniors one last chance at glory even if you have an awful season like TCU or Wyoming.
I agree that its dumb for the NCAA and having a 68 team field with two of the 12 seeds having to play in while two 12 seeds just get to be 12 seeds. That is ridiculous, even if its keep the Rams on the bubble. All 12 seeds should have to play in or none, half doesn’t make any sense.

The play ins should be 16 seeds. If you’re so far off the bubble you have to play in how do you deserve to be a higher seed than other teams?

Same with CSU.
Three conferences are having their tournament in Vegas. The WCC is playing theirs at the Orleans arena and the MWC and WAC or having their tournaments in VEGAS too.
The University of Utah is off to the Pac-12 Conference and will be in the South Division. Hopefully we will get to the first ever Pac-12 Championship Game. Jon " Bones " Jones gets his chance for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title when he faces off against Shogun Rua. Jon Jones will win.
