So, maybe Ernie Kent is not the current favorite to land the Wyoming Cowboy basketball job after all. Cowboy Altitude has been following this story as well as airplanes leaving Laramie to the east coast:
At 10:48am EST the plane landed in Williamsburg, VA where the three gentlmen exited the plane. The plane didn't take off until 2:07pm. So what happened during those three hours and 19 minutes? Well we now know that Wyoming officials did indeed meet with Old Dominion coach Blaine Taylor. Old Dominion is based in Norfolk which very close to Williamsburg. A native of Montana Taylor has also been linked with the Utah opening.
Taylor did not return on the plane to Laramie, but so far he is the only candidate that we know that Wyoming has spoken to. Bennett has led Old Dominion to two straight NCAA tournaments and three overall in his 10 year career at ODU all while posting an overall record of 215-112 in 10 years.
This could be the best time for Taylor to look for afresh start since ODU is losing four key players which would make next year a rebuilding year at Old Dominion. Wyoming would also be a rebuilding but overall the job is a step up from the CAA even though some people do disagree. Even with Utah and BYU leaving the league the Mountain West is still a better league then the CAA mainly because even in a lesser Mountain West the league will still get a minimum of two bids each year and usually get three bids while the CAA gets one and sometimes two every so often. The CAA has improved by getting three bids this year, but that is not the norm.
The difference is that the Mountain West can offer more money due to the league being FBS football while the CAA is only FCS football. Plus, the Mountain West has a bigger upside even though Wyoming is at the bottom or the Mountain West.
