Jimmer Fredette is back! Well in the terms of going off offensively again. Fredette dropped 52 points on the New Mexico Lobos tonight which tied Providence's Marshon Brooks for the most points this year. The amazing thing about the game was that Fredette shot only one free throw tonight; his line read 22-of-37 from the field and 7-of-14 from behind the three-point arc. That is a drastic improvement over his 7-21 shooting against TCU. Fredette scored 33 of his 52 pointsin the first half. Fredette's 52 were more points by either Penn State or Wisconsin who played to a 36-33 snooze fest earlier tonight.
The game was a close game back and forth until BYU pulled away with about six minutes left in the game. The Lobos chances took a big blow early in the second half when guard Darise Gary went down with knee injury early in the second half and was unable to return. Gary was New Mexico's top perimeter defender and is the player who orchestrates the Lobo offense. His knee was heavily wrapped with ice when he returned to the bench.
New Mexico almost certain to now be regulated to the NIT tournament, and it is a shame that is the case because they were playing well down the stretch and would give any team in the NCAA tournament a game.
I think I put this song on the site before but it was with highlights and this one is different, but seems appropriate with the win tonight.
