What We Learned From Week 10 Of Mountain West Football

The Colorado St. Rams were the only team on a bye this week.

Air Force Falcons - The defense stepped up huge with five takeaways with three straight in the second half which led to 13 second half points. Rushing game was not great and was held way below their season average of 310 and ended with 179 on the ground.

Boise St. Broncos - Kellen Moore is the all-time winningest FBS quarterback after the win. Running back Doug Martin had a leg injury, no current update and Boise State struggled for a half against UNLV.

Star-divide

New Mexico Lobos - Improvement! New Mexico scores their first touchdown in nine quarters.

San Diego St. Aztecs - A bounce back win over New Mexico as Ronnie Hillman did his thing and rushed for 141 yards and a score.

TCU Horned Frogs -  The running game saved the day by rushing for 390 yards with Waymon James leading the way with 181 yards on only 12 carries and then Ed Wesley Matthew Tucker scoring two touchdowns apiece.

UNLV Rebels - UNLV had a respectable first half against Boise State with 14 first half points. Quarterback Sean Reilly was efficient going 12-for-17 and a touchdown. The big key was the zero turnovers.

Wyoming Cowboys - Undefeated no more in Mountain West play, but they played TCU tough. The offense just could not get going even after having a plus five turnover margin. Brett Smith held his own in the passing game with 210 yards and two touchdowns.

Poor tackling...

and not enough good blocking on offense lead to the demise of the Pokes. 5 turnovers were huge, and kept UW in the game. Too bad they could not capitalize on them.

Oh well, at least UW did not suffer the same kind of beat downs that have been common from TCU in the past 2 years. I think that UW does have a good chance against AFA this coming weekend. I think the teams match up a lot better in terms of speed and size, plus Wyoming always seems to play AFA pretty tough.

That being said, I also see a good chance of UW going at least 7-5, and if they get some good breaks against AFA then 8-4 is not out of the question. Hey, 8-4 is good enough for the Big East champ of last year, it should be good enough for everyone else!
