After false news that Terry Bowden would be replacing Mike Locksley as the next head coach for the New Mexico Lobos, there is a report coming from 610 the Sports Animal out of Albuquerque that former Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Glen Mason is going to be the new football coach at New Mexico. The hiring is to be official at a Wednesday press conference, this according to KOB channel 4 to announce the hiring.
Mason's last job at Minnesota saw him go 64-57 from 1997 - 2006 before he was fired. Mason went 3-4 in bowl games and his best year was in 2003 when Minnesota finished 10-3 which was good enough for a fourth place tie in the Big 10. Prior to Minnesota, Mason spent eight years as the Kansas Jayhawks head coach from1998-95 where he had a record of 47-54-1 and prior to that two years at Kent State.
If Mason can win at Minnesota then why not at New Mexico. Ever since he left Minnesota the team has not fared very well with a 29-46 record since Mason's departure.
