The New Mexico Lobos made it clear that they want their new head coach to either be a current head coach or has head coaching experience. A name on no one's radar popped up as a report is saying that Terry Bowden is considering taking the New Mexico football gig, according to University of New Mexico officials. Bowden has spent the last three seasons at division II North Alabama and prior to that has spent time coaching the Auburn Tigers from 1993-98 with a record of 47-17-1 with one undefeated season.
However, Bowden has come out and squashed those rumors and is not sure how his name was involved with the New Mexico opening:
"I am not a candidate for the New Mexico job," Bowden said Wednesday night.
"I'm not sure where that got started but no one from New Mexico has contacted me and I have not contacted anyone from New Mexico. I am not interested in New Mexico."
Looks like false information was leaked out or someone is lying, regardless of that if New Mexico could land Terry Bowden it would be a big coup for New Mexico. Bowden is a big enough name to appease the fan base, because no matter how much the locals want Mike Leach he is not going to be coming to Albuquerque.
