Nevada 49 Eastern Washington 24
Nevada's Offense
Nevada showed a good balanced passing and running attack form the start with Colin Kaepernick throwing for 306 yards and completing 26 out of 37 passes with 1 TD and 2 rushing TDs as he rushed for 60 yards. Kaepernick connected with 7 different targets averaging around 10 yards a catch.
TE Virgil Green received the ball 7 times for 144 yards and 2 TDs ( 48,40 yards).
Nevada's rushing attack was spread out between 4 different players for a total of 214 yards. Kaepernick 11 carries for 60 yards, Vai Tua 12 carries for 51 yards for 2 TDs, Lampford Mark 7 carries for 52 yards for 1 TD, and Mike Ball 7 carries for 46 yards.
Eastern Washington had a hard time stopping but due to several penalties costing Nevada several drives in the 2nd half.
Nevada's Defense
Nevada's Defense is a different story. Nevada look good most of the game but gave up several big plays to East Washington's explosive RB Taiwan Jones. In the First half, a screen play to Taiwan Jones ended up in a 82 yard run for a Touchdown. In the 2nd half in a reverse Taiwan Jones ran for 72 yards to the Nevada 6 yard line. Through out the 2nd half there was several mistackles especially in the back field which ended up in first downs. Nevada had about 5 sacks so the defense pressure was there but the mistackles is a huge issue. Two injuries happened to Nevada's secondary but doesnt seem too bad. The defense did received an interception and a fumble recovery.
Eastern Washington passed for 270 yards for 21/40 pass attempts, and rushed for 160 yards ( which was the one from the 74 yard dash).
For next week Nevada is gonna have to work on its defense especially on tackling.

Good recap
I expect you’ll be at the CSU game as well…

UNLV is going all the way this year!
Nah
Nevada is going to do everything it can to be in the MWC by 2011. Also if Fresno beats Cinnci and Nevada beats Cal and BYU in 2 weeks you better believe MWC is going to go all out in getting us in early. Both teams will probably be ranked or close after these games if they are wins
That's a good point
Both Fresno State and Nevada need to put their best foot forward and try to make their BCS Ranking great. That gives the MWC a reason to hurry up and make sure they would be added.

I just want to know how they plan on arriving early.
I realize they want to, but the WAC deadline seems pretty clear to me. It also has nothing to do with the Project, so BYU’s noncommittal doesn’t have anything to do with it.
The only way I can see them coming early is if they buy their way out of the WAC, and there’s no way the WAC will let them do that for anything less than … oh, about $5 mil.
Maybe the MWC could help them get out
They did put in the contract that the MWC would give cash considerations to help pay for the buyouts. I think Karl Benson would let them go early if he got the 5 million from each school, but that’s a pretty big chunk of change.

how is Louks looking?
He left Utah kind of in a sour mood since he was the 3rd string QB and was gonna play safety.
Mountain West Connection The best site for MWC sports!
Hes doing ok
We had him go Safety due to his high speed. During training camp and scrimages he did fantastic. During the 1st quarter one of the cornerbacks was trying to bring the WR down and he went to help out and they second he got there the WR went down and his helmet smacked right into is knee. He left game in a lot of pain.
Because he was red shirt last year next year will be his senior year and we might have him back at QB if something happens to Tyler Lantrip.
dang
he was one of the guys I was hoping would work out for the defense. But he’ll be back soonish hopefully, so its not terrible news for an already thin secondary.
Wont have him for the Cal game though
Hope hes back for the BYU game. Glad not the only Nevada here atm.
glad to have you
hanging out here and participating about future conference mates.

I still think Louks made a poor choice
No offense to Nevada or you WolfNev but I really think if Louks had stuck around and swallowed the pill he had to take, our secondary would be lucky to have him.
Eh
Well i’m glad because our secondary blew last year and he is really good addition for us. It really sucks hes out for 2 to 4 weeks, hes gonna miss the Cal game and maybe the BYU game. Last year when we first heard he was coming we knew hes gonna get red shirted, so this year he will be a junior, we thought he he was gonna play a year behind Kaepernick and be our QB for his senior year.
15k was reported for the attendance but I dont believe
It look alot more then half full but they were running a promotion that kids in Pop Warner jersey’s or in sport jersey’s got in for free and didnt go through things you go through to count people. And there was alot of kids and i mean alot of kids in jerseys.
usually those numbers are tickets sold
not actual attendance. Really hoping they can turn around the attendance problems this year and help combat the budget deficit.
Parking is bad imo. I hate to park of by the old Civil War cemetary last Thurs. Maybe one of the reason why it might discourage people to come.
I always used to park in the neighborhoods to the west of the university
little bit of a walk, but you don’t have to deal with traffic when you leave. but yeah I agree the parking isn’t ideal.
Why are the worst parking situations in the western united states both Nevada schools?
UNLV’s dirt lot is horrific, and I’ve been to UNR and the parking is not even close to sufficient for the stadium. Didn’t either school have a city planner?

Nevada's stadium when it was built
Back in 1966 the capacity was for 7,500 and its on campus. After decades of expansion it now holds 30,000. So ya back then they never planned for that. They build 2 parking garages nearby but thats not enough.
UNLV heh idk. I know its way off on the side of the city so I guess they have no excuses there.
I have no idea why UNLV made a dirt lot.
UNLV Football didn’t have good opponents and therefore didn’t have many traveling fans for any games when the stadium was built. UNLV football itself was horrific as well. Attendance was disgusting and probably made a good case for "There is no reason to spend money on building a full parking lot when half of it is going to be empty. Just build half parking lot, half dirt lot.

UNLV is going all the way this year!
That is probably true.
But let’s not paint too rosy of a picture. It’s not half paved / half dirt. It’s all dirt. The paved part is for media, team busses and donors. No regular fans of either team park on a paved lot.
I’ve started leaving my car at my friend’s condo nearby and walking over. Saves me breathing in a handful of dirt.

After they built Mackay they also
Built tons of house and apartments around it. So unless they move the stadium or build several more parking garages on campus parking is always going to be bad
yeah I dont see it ever improving, or them moving the stadium
especially with the way the school’s athletic budget is now
nevada and fresno can do boise a favor. nevada needs to beat cal and fresno needs to beat illinois and ole miss
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. Womens MMA, the next big thing in sports. Utah and Boise take care of business in week one. Don't be surprised if they both go undefeated.

I read an article that someone from the Salt Lake Tribune or what ever is calling for BYU to be nasty to Nevada on Sept 25th because we were a road block in their independence.
Whoa...
A little bitterness? They still went independent – did they just run right over the roadblock?

yeah it was near the beginning of the whole fiasco
right after NV and fresno made the jump. and I think it was just a fluff story from a journalist, not from the school.
I found it kind of lame when I read it, by that logic everyone in the MWC should be “nasty” to them. Apparently they decided it didn’t have to go both ways.
i'm up for some nastiness from both teams.
maybe the nevada defense will hit harder and better.

And do TCU a favor by beating Boise so TCU gets in
And Nevada gets in a BCS game. Theres always hope.
yes hope but until the wolfpack gets a defense i don't see it happening.
they would have to win three big shootouts vs byu, cal and boise. very unlikely but good luck anyway

me neither
defense, Ault’s achilles heal. If the team figures out how to tackle, it would go a long way. I’m hoping we see that aspect improve this year, but I’ll admit I’m pessimistic.
