Part of the reasoning that BYU has been silent is that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have the final say regarding BYU sports, and any move to a different league would have to go through them. The group meets Thursday and is the only time they will meet before the September 1st deadline which is the date BYU must announce to the Mountain West if they want to leave the conference and play elsewhere in 2011:
Its governing Board of Trustees - members of the LDS Church's First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve - will hold their weekly meeting this morning, the last scheduled meeting before the Sept. 1 deadline. A move away from the status quo would require the LDS Church's approval; a decision to stay in the MWC most likely would not.
Thursday could be the day that this finally comes to an end, because there is only so much speculation one can spit out regarding what BYU is or will not do and how it affects this or that. Soon enough football will be here and we can get to watching action on the field and not worrying about the conference shuffle.
