This potential move still has a lot to do with BYU going independent as they want to bolster their schedule, and if they can get Texas to go to LaVell Edwards that would be huge.
This news come from the Austin-American Statesman:
With BYU's interest in perhaps playing football as an independent, the school is very interested in arranging high-profile games and will play the Longhorns in a home-and-home series on dates yet to be determined after the 2011 game in Austin.
Too bad the dates were not included, because would have given everyone a clue on what BYU's plans are going to be. However, if the game were to be scheduled for 2012 it would surely mean that BYU is going to stand pat and be an independent as they all ready have games scheduled with Oregon State, @ Boise State, Utah State, and Hawai'i.
Independent or not this is a huge pick up for BYU to get a big time team to come to Provo. Texas has traditionally stayed away from good programs on the road, but that trend is going the other way as they have future games at Ole Miss, UCLA, Notre Dame, Maryland, and Cal.
Texas does have an open date in 2012 so it is conceivable for the second game to start then.
