Hmmm watching this video
makes me think that BYU is using this as leverage agains the MWC to get a better deal than the other 8 schools.
Could be possible
BYU hasn’t made it official yet that they are leaving the conference and could just have this out on the table as an offer to get the MWC to give BYU a better deal.

UNLV is going all the way this year!
I think that the WAC is dead.
Actually, I think BYU has killed one of the two non-BCS western conferences. Either Fresno and Nevada accept (killing the WAC) or they decline, Boise goes back, and the MWC dies, losing UNLV/SDSU/CSU to the WAC, UNM and TCU to CUSA, AF independent, and Wyoming to IAA.
I guess there’s about a 10% chance that both conferences remain viable, but it’s slim.

WAC could just invite Montana and Montana St.
to stay at 8 teams for football and 9 for all other sports.

Maybe.
But Montana state certainly isn’t ready to make the move, and Montana might not be either. And they’ve got to decide quickly, within a year. Doesn’t mean they won’t do it, but it’s certainly not a done deal.
Plus it further lessens the games BYU can pull from the WAC. Their 4-6 WAC games every year now consist of:
Idaho
SJSU
NMSU
LA Tech
Hawaii (unlikely unless it’s all in Provo)
Montana
Montana State
That’s not exactly a great list of teams. Fresno and Nevada are at least average, those are junk.
