Predicting The Season: Boise State @ Wyoming

This matchup will be a conference game next year, but in the mean time Wyoming will take a non-conference loss.  Sorry, Wyoming but you guys are not there yet.  The Cowboys are an improving team with a quarterback in the making with Austyn Carta-Samuels, but thye still need more talent to be able to compete with top teams like Boise State.

Boise on the other hand returns nearly every starter from last years Fiesta Bowl team and a legitimate chance at a national title if they can get past Virginia Tech and Oregon State.

Boise State is 3rd while Wyoming is 88th in the Sporting News top 100. The game will be on The Mtn. with a kick at 8 p.m. eastern time on Saturday September 18th.

Voting lasts 24 hours and will begin everyday at 11am mountain time.

At Wyoming is a tough game for anyone.

Last time Boise was there (2006) they squeaked out a 7-pt victory.

I guess oen = 24 :)

Obviously, Wyoming has a chance

Upsets happen, especially in college football, where travel is more difficult. On paper, though, Boise State should win this easily.

i would love to see wyoming return to the glory days of lloyd eaton coached teams but it’s gonna be a tough season for the cowboy gridders. although dave christensen had success as a rookie coach, the cowboys are on everyone’s radar now and he’ll have a tough-row-to-hoe to match last year’s record. plus they have to plug the holes on defense left by fletcher, johnson and unrein and offensive tackle ryan otterson’s graduations. those guys were studs! if carta-samuels shows up as a sophomore, that would sure help.

after a scrimmage-like opener against southern utah, they play texas and boise state on back-to-back weekends. result: 1 win and 2 losses. victories over air force and toledo the next two games would make the ’pokes 3-2 (or 2-3 with a loss to either of those teams) going into the tcu-utah-byu three-game juggernaut. hopefully they are 3-5 after that stretch and only have to win three-of-four against san diego st/new mexico/unlv/colorado state (and only one-of-two on the road) to finish the season at 6-6.

same as last year, i see wyoming 0-5 against the teams that likely will wind up in bowl games (texas/boise st/tcu/utah/byu). that said, with a 6-6 record, it’s possible the cowboys get an invitation to the armed forces bowl or the new mexico bowl as the fourth best mountain west team. although personally i hope they play in the humanitarian bowl in boise and have another chance to beat up on a wac team. i loved last years victory over fresno st. anytime pat hill gets his nose rubbed in it is alright by me.
