Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

This comes as a bit of shocker, but this is the order in which the events occured:

1. Nebraska decides to move to Big Ten in informal meeting.

2. Big Ten extends formal invite to Nebraska

3. Nebraska accepts

The link takes you to the article by Chip Brown talking about the informal meeting.

"Missouri is getting the cold shoulder from the Big Ten" said an athletic director with knowledge close to the Big Ten.

Sould the MWC now expand, take Boise St., Missouri and Colorado, if the Pac-10 takes Baylor instead? I think so.

For the Big 12

It’s great news for the MWC.

UNLV is going all the way this year!

Don't forget about Kansas and Kansas State...

I highly doubt the Mountain West would pass on them.

by BSU Guru on Jun 9, 2010 3:19 PM PDT reply actions

They could pass on them

if both Missouri and Colorado are just sitting there… Missouri and Colorado seem to be a better package than Kansas and Kansas State.

Question

Why is this Chip Brown guy the only one getting all this info? I’m not saying I don’t believe him, as he seems credible, it’s just weird to me.

good question

Fellow blogger Peter Bean from Burnt Orange Nation brought up a very valid point. Orangebloods is very good at selling subscriptions since Rivals is mostly a premium site.

Personally, I think DeLoss Dodds is feeding him what Dodds wants to be said. A lot of Brown’s writing is about how Nebraska is the one to blame for breaking up the conference, when it’s been pretty clear that Texas has been flirting with others from the word “go.”

I was for realignment

but now that it’s happening, I just have a pit in my stomach.

by jwkcsu on Jun 9, 2010 3:49 PM PDT reply actions

Yes, me too.

I don’t mind a few teams moving around here and there, but this is just so drastic, I’m really skeptical that it’s going to lead to a better all-around product. And I worry about my teams being left out in the cold or ending up in worse competitive situations. Or maybe I just fear change

Contraction

Can the MWC contract some teams and add others instead. One of the main criticisms has always been the bottom feeders of this conference.

by Monkey Brain on Jun 9, 2010 4:05 PM PDT reply actions

the problem

is that the bottom feeders are in good TV and recruiting markets, like San Diego, or the growing state of New Mexico, or Las Vegas

unless you want to kick out Wyoming…and CSU would have a hemorrhage if that were to happen.

Why does everyone hate Wyoming so much?

Wyoming has brought more to the table than Baylor or ISU ever will athletically. And yes, I don’t think CSU would be very keen on that idea considering they have been rivals since 1899.

Careful!

Why in the name of sanity would the MW want to take Missouri? That’s nuts. The MW will have a one-shot opportunity to put together a really neat conference. Don’t go stupid.

Missouri

has a decent football team that would help with the BCS AQ, have a hoops team that went to the elite 8 two years ago, and their in a decent TV Market. Their a better candidate than Kansas State and Colorado is a better candidate than Kansas makes more sense for Colorado and Missouri to the MWC than Kansas and Kansas State to the MWC.

ACC takes the best Big East schools

Leaving Big East in ruins and no room in the ACC. Would make more sense for Kansas, K-State or Missouri to go to the MWC at that point.

Imagine

Having a conference with TCU,UTAH,BYU,Kansas,K-State,Mizzou and Boise State! That would be a stellar conference if we can pull it off.

by Monkey Brain on Jun 9, 2010 6:47 PM PDT reply actions

That would have to mean that we go to 16 teams...

We are not going to thirteen, see MAC.

Can't get rid of bottom feeders

They are all good in basketball and that is pretty much what is keeping them in the conference. So like I said before, if we’re going to over 12 teams, it has to be 16.

I’m pretty sure Colorado will be in the Pac-10, they won’t let Baylor out maneuver them and will likely be accepting their invite first and separately to block off Baylor’s spot.

That leave Kansas, K-State and Mizzou to the MWC. Built in historical rivalries and basketball prominence ho!

Cal

will vote no because they do not want a religious school in their league. Hence no BYU
