Making the Rounds: 3/09/10
National news: High-definition televisions are coming to instant replay booths this season in the Southeastern, Big Ten, Big 12 and possibly the Atlantic Coast conferences
Five factors that could sink conference expansion. Talk of Big Ten and Pacific10 expansion creates tension among other conferences. The most intriguing candidate for Big Ten expansion is Rutgers. Expansion may force Notre Dame's hand.
Under Big 12 rules, Colorado must give two years notice if it plans to withdraw from the league and would forfeit 50% of its conference distribution for both years, according to the Boulder Daily Camera.
Another bowl game has popped up with The Pinstripe Bowl and there is a chance that there are not enough teams to fill the 74 spots.
Air Force: The secondary should be deeper and more athletic than it's ever been.
BYU: Football assistant Barry Lamb will take a leave of absence for health-related reasons, and will not participate in spring drills. Jimmer Fredette is a third team All-American. LB Matt Bauman earned post grad scholarship.
Colorado State: Steve Fairchild had a good time meeting with Norm Chow.
New Mexico: Breaking down the player of the year award. More Lobo tourney coverage.
San Diego State: More bubble talk. The football team needs to be consistent. Former Aztec picture Stephen Strasburg attempts to live up to the hype.
TCU: Baseball team falls to Rice in the ninth. Oregon State QB Lyle Moevao was not given a sixth year by the NCAA and will not face TCU in the 2010 opener.
Utah: Spring practice starts for Utah today. Ute kicker Nick March, who was suspended indefinitely last year after breaking team rules, has been given a second chance.
Tyler Shreve, a quarterback from Redlands, California might be off the team before even arriving on campus. The Utah Utes had 21 scouts visit for Monday's Pro Day. Utah's focus this spring is revamping its defense, which lost several starters.
UNLV: Tre'Von Willis wants more then all league honors. Coach Tark started six players for a game. The Rebels are hoping to not lose to Utah for the third straight game.
Wyoming: Cowboy football is different this spring and it's for the better. Wyoming's men's and women's club Nordic skiing teams swept the team titles.

there are not enough 6-6- teams to fill 37 bowls. we will see some 5-7 teams in bowl games.
i think it’s a grand idea to give a bowl trophy to a 6-7 team.
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. I was building a house, I don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. Bang. "Unforgiven" I drink your milkshake. I drink it up! "There Will BE Blood"

the more bowl games
the better chance we’ll get the dream match up of Oregon St vs. S. Carolina.
Think about the nick names………..

i justr checked the link i read it wrong. just the qb that did not get the sixth year of eligiblity
won’t be facing the horned frogs. should be an easy win for tcu. i love teams that have good starting qb’s with ncaa experience vs a qb and his team who has very few or no ncaa experience in hostile territory. same thing with pittsburgh when they play utah. the guy who is supposed to start(for pittsburgh) has no ncaa experience and has to play a road game at roughly 4700 feet. utah is going to win that game.

Conference realignment
well, the intial way of excitement is past on the conference realignment and now the harsh reality is starting to set in.
I like how I’m looking smarter with my Rutgers or Notre Dame to the Big 11.
The Pac-10…..the more I think about it the more I think it’s going to be BYU and Utah. Yeah, it’s not their dream duo of Utah, and Colorado, but getting Utah through the legislature I think will require taking BYU to get the BYU supporters votes.
And that will hurt the Mtn West a lot taking them down to 7 schools, and minus the 2 biggest football stadiums/programs. A Mtn West/WAC merger of some sort seems inevitable. Will be interesting to see how many and who. Any number past 12 is decreasing return, and cost more in dividing the pie. So that means 5 teams from the WAC, and 7 from the Mtn West.
Boise St., Fresno St, Nevada are locks. Hawaii, Idaho and Utah St, I think would be the next 3 for the final 2 spots. All have good things…all have bad things. Out would be San Jose, New Mexico St, and La. Tech. UTEP and Houston would be interesting possibilities as well.
Bottom Line: I think the Mtn West Conf. will look a lot different in a few years.

hmm
I think for the Pac-10 its Colorado and Utah or BYU or nothing at all. Denver and SLC is better then Utah with the Mormon national following. I expect if expansion happens Utah/CU to Pac-10 and then BYU will replace CU in the Big XII which will leave the WAC, MWC, Sun Belt, and C-USA scrambling to fit those four leagues into 3. Most of the WAC and MWC will merge and I could see La. Tech getting the boot to the Sun Belt and dominating that league. C-USA may not be a player but with geography who knows.

Pac 10
REALLY needs the Football Championship game…or rather the Money from it. They HAVE to expand or get left behind.
Like I said CU and Utah would be the dream 2….but there will be too many BYU supporters in the Utah legislature. They won’t let BYU left behind and would block Utah leaving alone. The Pac 10 would be better than the Big 12 in money after the expansion from what I’ve read.
And BYU and Utah…is better than nothing for the Pac-10
