Rams Secure 5th Seed With Win Over Utah

The Colorado State Rams(16-14, 7-9) locked themselves into their best MWC tournament ranking in over 9 years with a 76-67 win over Utah(14-16, 7-9).  The Utes will be the 6th seed heading into the MWC tournament.  The Rams shot 50% from the field and were led by Travis Franklin's 16 points.  Marshall Henderson scored the game high 18 in the losing effort for the Utes.  Utah shot 40% from the field and only 5-18 from three point land.  Besides the shooting both teams were evenly matched.  CSU had 12 turnovers to the Utes 13.  The Rams had a slight rebounding edge 29-25.

For the Utes Jay Watkins played very well on both ends of the court.  Watkins managed 15 points and 7 rebounds which tied for the game high.  His biggest contribution came from slowing down Andy Ogide who had 10 points but 6 of those came from the foul line.  All day the Utah big men played good defense down low.

For CSU Travis Busch and Mame Bocar Ba had good senior days. Busch had 12 points and made some good hustle plays, he was limited due to foul trouble though.  Ba had a season high 9 points in just 13 minutes and played just as well if not better then Andy Ogide for the Rams.  Ba was 4-4 from the floor.  Great games for both seniors Moby farewell.

I won't go into detail about the tournament match-ups as the seeds are not set in stone but it looks like CSU will take on SDSU while Utah gets UNLV.  For an NIT birth both teams would need to win a few games in the tournament, CSU is around 30 spots higher in the RPI so they have the better chance.  If CSU wins two or more games I think an NIT birth is a near lock.  For Utah it might be MWC tournament champions or bust, three games would put them on the NIT map though.

now utah is locked into the 6th seed and get to play unlv on their homecourt.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. I was building a house, I don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. Bang. "Unforgiven" I drink your milkshake. I drink it up! "There Will BE Blood"

Utah swept UNLV

has always been a bad matchup for the rebels and will make it a tough game for UNLV to win. The good news is that if UNLV wins, they’re either going to play BYU or TCU. Two teams that they beat and beat bad in Vegas.

like i said before i'm not really that much into college basketball.

i actually want utah to lose b/c it’s what is best for the conference just like i said it was best that tcu went undefeated in regular season mwc and ooc schedule so we would get bcs money. unlv will be pumped up on their home floor and will beat the utes. that is fine with me. i also want sdsu to get 2 wins so they most likely will be in the ncaa tournament so the mwc gets four teams in. for the last week that joe bracketology guy on espn has had sdsu last four in. you think it’s been drilled into the whole country’s collective thought process. i just want all the mwc teams to beat some east coast teams. we are better than the pac-ten so lets beat some east coast teams.

Fan Conundrum

I want 4 teams in the MWC but I also want CSU in the NIT, or a crazy lucky run to the NCAA. If SDSU wins I want them going at least to the finals. If CSU wins I want them going at least two wins. At heart I really want the Rams to get an NIT berth because I will be in Tempe when they play so I could be the 1 fan rooting them on. If SDSU wins I won’t be mad though.

interesting dilemma you have.

suck it up and let’s get four teams in the ncaa tournament. other than the winner of the nit nobody remembers any of those games.

Rammie at heart

This is the only season at CSU the Rams haven’t had to play in the play-in game since I have been at school. A NIT birth would be like the super bowl to a true Rams fan. The Rams average a NIT or NCAA birth every 6 years over the last 30 years so its a big deal to Ram fans. I have to tip my fan conundrum to the Rams winning.

He really has

If you look at my season preview I wasn’t impressed with the new group of freshman but I was dead wrong on that. Dorian Green and Greg Smith are awesome, getting Travis Busch with a transfer was awesome. Good stuff all around by Tim Miles. He is lots of fun to watch during the game as he yells and players and refs which is a good bonus.

I'm no Ute fan

but if I were I’d have to think that this is an all time low for Utah.

unfortunately

The last year for Giac was worse. 2006-2007 only 11 wins. Still this year was not acceptable.
