Mountain West Tournament Quarterfinals Open Thread

Ah! Four games in action today! One thing to take note is that the Mountain West tournament has always had some upset in this round that no one saw. The most common choice would be Utah over UNLV since the Utes beat them twice all ready, but Colorado State for how bad they have been playing could sneak up on San Diego State since the Aztecs are in a must win situation. I assume nothing will happen, but when you assume that is when an oddity occurs.

Oh well, just stop by and spend your day with us chatting over games instead of working, and stay for the night cap of games as well. HD for The Mtn, just hope it does not explode.

Just realized that the top two teams are non on CBS. Wonder if this was just a scheduling thing or did the Mtn want their best games on their network only?

No joke

I didn’t see the game, but the score and, more significantly, the stat line does not look great. I hope we get deeper into our bench and that Roman starts hitting shots. That being said, I am ok with going 25-30 from the FT line.

I'm a Rebel, but I bleed the cherry and silver of the Lobos.

This is how the whole game went:

We go up by 7 or so, and it looks like we’re gonna break it open… Then we do something stupid like let someone slip through alone to the basket for an easy layup, or leave someone open on the wing.

Or they hit a ridiculous shot, like a fadeaway 3.

Performances:
Ro- didn’t show up big this game. He hit two big 3s to start the game, then went completely cold. Even his D looked bad this game. He had a few good hustle plays, but nothing spectacular.
Gary- was insane. This guy sacrifices his body each and every time he goes to the basket, and yet is in perfect control until the minute he lets go of the ball. And he was something like 14 of 15 on his FTs.
Hobson- was unconscious good. He got way too emotional on the court, though. For a few moments I felt embarrassed. I’m all for feeling the moment and getting fired up, but he went over the line.

Letting teams stay close has been our problem all year long, though. As good as we’ve been in crunch time and with the game on the line, we are incapable of breaking games open the way a BYU does. If we let a lower-seed team get hot late in the game in the tournament and we could be in trouble. How often can we go 25/30 from the line?

the lobos were giving 18 points to air force too.

they did not even come close to covering. utah is getting 13 points when they play unlv.

Bad calls

The Ba “punch” was a shove the slipped up the shoulder and I don’t even think his hand made contact with face.

The Ogide call was borderline. He didn’t see the guy there he just swung the elbow and got unlucky by hitting his chin. Great flop job by Carlwell to sell in and get Ogide ejected though. That seemed weak to toss Ogide after that.

off topic but I was checking the sites stats an Steve Czaben who used to be on Fox Sports radio and is a DC sports host linked back to the Admiral Ackbar post. Kind of odd since this site has nothing to do with Ole Miss. But hey traffic is traffic. Just a side thought.
