MWC's NCAA Tournament Teams
This post is being promoted to the front page from the fan post section.
Best case scenario for the conference is that SDSU wins the tourney and the other 3 get at-large bids, because that would be a conference record for NCAA Tourney bids. It isn't the best case scenario for UNLV.
Let's think about this, let's say UNLV wins out. Then they have to beat Utah, Utah is probably going to be the 6 seed and UNLV will be the 3 seed if they win out, UNLV already lost to Utah at home this season and Utah has always been a horrible matchup for UNLV. If they beat Utah, then they probably are going to have to face New Mexico, New Mexico is probably going to be 2nd seed and they will face the 7 seed probably Wyoming. New Mexico already beat them at home. And they are another bad matchup for UNLV. Let's say they beat New Mexico. Now they're probably going up against BYU or SDSU, BYU would be a better matchup for UNLV, but SDSU is a horrible matchup for BYU. SDSU wins. Once again another bad matchup for UNLV. SDSU is a great rebounding team, and that is UNLV's biggest weakness.
It's very improbable that we get 4 bids to the tourney. SDSU would have to beat BYU/New Mexico to get to the finals, and chances are that UNLV will not be going to the conference finals because of all the bad matchups they will probably face. So, that means that the team they didn't face in the second round matchup they will have to face in the conference final. The chances that they are going to beat UNM and BYU without their home crowd is OK at best.
So, there are many scenarios available here.
1. UNLV fades out at the end of the season like they did last year, lose bad in the first round to a bad matchup team like last year, and don't get a NCAA Tourney bid.
2. UNLV wins out, surprises everyone and wins the MWC Tourney, probably getting a 6 or 7 seed in the tourney.
3. UNLV wins out and loses in the MWC Tourney, but makes it to the second round or conference final, in that case they probably get a 9 or 10 seed in the tourney.
4. UNLV wins out, but gets blown out in the first round, in which they are a bubble team and will have to get lucky to get into the tourney.
5. SDSU fades out at the end of the season, loses big in the first round and doesn't get into the tourney.
6. SDSU wins out, but gets blown out in the first round, in which they don't make the NCAA Tourney.
7. SDSU wins out, surprises everyone and wins the MWC Tourney, in that scenario they are probably a 8 or 9 seed.
8. SDSU wins out, loses in the conference tourney, but makes it to the second round or the conference finals, in which they are out of the tourney.
As you can see, there are scenario combinations that are best for the league, scenario combinations that are worst for the league, there are scenarios that are best for SDSU, and there are scenarios that are best for UNLV. And these aren't even including the scenarios for New Mexico an BYU.
Best case scenario combination for the league is 3 and 7.
Worst case scenario combination for the league is 1 and 5.
Best case scenario for San Diego State is 7.
Best case scenario for UNLV is 2.
Worst case scenario for San Diego State is 5.
Worst Case scenario for UNLV is 1.
To sum things up, the chances that we get 4 bids is improbable, San Diego State has basically 1 scenario to make the tourney. UNLV has 3 scenarios to make the tourney. My predictions are that scenarios 3 and 8 happen.

4 mwc teams in the tourney would look good over the pac-ten's likely 2.

Outside of a PAC 10 conference tournament champ who else are you thinking?
You know the system is rigged if they get 2 in.

Pac10 is only getting 1 team in

"Surprises everyone"
I realize UNLV has lost two games in a row, but would it really be surprising for them to win the conference tournament? Do people already forget the whupping they put on BYU?
Ya, not everyone remembers that like we do.
Almost all fans in the MWC see the 2 loss streak where we can’t rebound a thing, and say we got hot for a game against BYU. That’s what almost everyone is saying, but I think that they have just stumbled without Jasper like we all thought they would. So for almost everyone, yes it would be a surprise because we will not have beaten anyone substantial up until the MWC Tourney.

But you can also make the same argument about BYU
the UNLV game was an off game for the Cougars and the game in Provo was with a mono laden Fredette.
I’m not going to say “I told you so” but no UNLV fan can deny that they played like they’ve never played before or play again. The BYU game showed their potential but when compared to how they’ve played throughout the season that game is looking more like a flash in the pan.
I do think UNLV will make it to the tourney championship but this time BYU will write a different story.

I'll take my chances in the tournament
BYU is certainly solid, but in all honesty, the top 4 teams in the Mountain West are fairly close this season. Yes, BYU is 23-3 and a solid team, but I think BYU fans are getting ahead of themselves with their team. I wouldn’t call that loss at UNLV a “flash in the pan.” After all, this is a UNLV team that went into the Pit and had their way with New Mexico. They’re definitely inconsistent, but I think they’ll get it together for the conference tournament.

Agree
There isn’t that much separating the top 4 teams in the conference.

UNLV
Has the edge in the tourney since it is at their home arena.

i was thinking maybe the committee would throw the pac-ten a bone just b/c they are the pac-ten.
no team in particular. i hope they just get there league champ in.

4 teams
To get four teams I think UNLV needs to play SDSU in the finals and SDSU wins. I think UNLV is close to a lock but they will need to win at least one and maybe two. i dont see a way SDSU gets in with out a conference tourney title, unless there are no upsets in other tourneys (not gonna happen) and they at least make it to the finals.
I like that scenario
I also think we can get an at large by winning out (winning @BYU) and making a deep tourny run.

It is possible for that to happen...
But it would have to be a win by at least 10 points over every team, including BYU, to finish out the regular season and then make the deep tourney run… They would have to really impress the committee… No squeaker against Air Force.

Perhaps a UNLV collapse could open a spot for SDSU though?

sdsu easily beat csu and will do the same with air force.
if both teams get to 24 wins i like our chances to get 4 in. every day for the last 5 days the espn bracketology guru guy has sdsu in when he talks about the bubble teams. the more he says it the more people will believe it. perception is reality.

Injuries
Hopefully Jasper and Shaw will return for the conference tourney. UNLV needs Jasper’s rebounds and energy as well as Shaw’s points!
