Mid-Conference Season Evaluations - New Mexico

New Mexico early on was playing great basketball until you lost to Oral Roberts, that hurt your confidence bad. You did come back strong though and beat Texas Tech and Dayton, then you lost your first two conference games to SDSU and UNLV. You haven't been very consistent since your loss to Oral Roberts and that would worry me if I were a UNM fan. If you can find a consistent scorer, then you can finish out the conference season strong and hopefully get a high seed in the tournament.

I give New Mexico a 89 at this point, because you've shown talent but no consistency since your first lost. If you get a consistent scorer and play consistent defense, then you will be in the tournament and in a pretty good spot.

Tough call

I gave them a B+, but honestly I don’t know what to think of the Lobos. They started out so well, but they really haven’t impressed me all that much in conference play, with their best win probably being that last romp over Colorado State.

I really think this week’s home game against BYU will tell us a lot about New Mexico. If they lose it they’ll be 0-3 against the top of the conference thus far, which certainly doesn’t bode well for the conference tournament. They have enough games left to get enough wins for an at large bid, but I don’t know if they can do much in the conference tournament.
