Breaking News: Utah RB Matt Asiata Suffers Torn ACL

Utah's running back work horse Matt Asiata suffered a knee injury in the first half, which happens to be a torn ACL.    He is officially out for the season with the ACL diagnosis this also ends his college career -- a medical redshirt is very doubtful but not certain.  In this Louisville game Utah has Eddie Wide at running back left and then the other back Sausan Shakerin was all ready out with an arm injury.  So in this game Utah is left with Senior Ray Stowers who was the fourth string, and Eddie Wide.

With Asiata out for the year this really changes the complection of the team, and if Sausan Shakerin is out for more time that means Ray Stowers will get more carries and that is not what the Utes want to do.

Where did you hear it was a torn ACL?

I’m doubting you a little, not because you’re a bad source but because I don’t want it to be a torn ACL.

It is an ACL

I work for a radio station in Salt Lake and one of our guys was at the game to cover Utah/Lousiville and he got the info there.

Dammit.

It did not look bad at all when it happened but then he came back with the brace and out of uniform and I got worried that he might be out a couple of games. No way did I think that was a season-ending injury. I mean, compared to the injury that cost him the 2007 season it didn’t look like anything. I hope Shak is ready to come back soon, because I have no faith in a Wide/Stowers backfield.

Wide

I think is good but not the man to carry the load like Asiata or Shaq. Good thing the Utes are off next week. Wide is a secondary back and change of pace, but he did have over 100 yards tonight. Shaq needs to be the guy and Wide should get maybe 10 a game max.

That's not good.

5th year possibility

Coach Whitt in his interview said there is a chance Asiata can be granted another year. We can only hope, he is too good of player to end his career like this. Although we will miss him, I think Wide and Smithson will do an excellent job and wont miss a beat.

What else do we have to prove?

I heard that

If he wants to and is able to come back. The Utes wil be stellar next year on offense and only the offensive line will need to be rebuilt.
