MWC Hoops
Here are the MWC Teams and their record:
New Mexico - 12-0
BYU - 10-1
UNLV - 10-1
Colorado St. - 8-3
SDSU - 8-3
Air Force - 5-4
TCU - 6-5
Wyoming - 6-5
Utah - 5-6
Our teams are making our basketball programs look better than even the PAC-10 by huge margins, they only have 1 team ranked and we have 2 teams ranked. Our best team is ranked ahead of their ranked team.
This is a place where MWC fans can comment on anything about MWC hoops.

Hope so
Utah made it back in the mid 90’s.

I think so...
I know I am a huge Lobo fan, but they are playing great ball and winning in a multitude of ways – not just as the third yongest team in the nation either. Couple that with an excellent coach in Alford and a couple of good recruits coming in and I see a program being built. I know it is still a longshot to think about, but it is totally possible, even as early as this year.
There is also UNLV and San Diego State.

Utah
they have the history just need to bring that back and the MWC is a top flight hoops league.

I agree.
I just don’t see them putting it together this year. It is still early though.

Final 4
It’s certainly not going to be easy, but I do think the MWC is putting together the type of programs that could end up in the final 4 at some point. New Mexico certainly has a solid base, and an intriguing coach in Alford.
I actually think UNLV could conceivably be a team to make a lot of noise in the near future. Heading into this season there were a lot of question marks given the starters they lost last season and the influx of transfers this season. The team still has plenty of question marks (see the K-State game), but they’re coming together a lot sooner than I think many anticipated.
What is especially exciting for UNLV is where they could be a year from now. While a guy like Tre’Von Willis could go pro after this season, I’d be a bit surprised if they didn’t return most of their starters. Senior Darris Santee is getting the most minimums among the 3 big guys (Santee, Massamba, Shaw), but other than that they have all juniors, sophomores and a few freshmen. They’re going to add in Kansas transfer Quintrell Thomas, and freshman big man Carlos Lopez will be coming off a redshirt year. Depending on how they do this season, the sky could be the limit for the Rebels next season. As you can see I get easily excited by them.

I Agree
With the way UNLV is playing, I believe by the end of this week we could be at 17 in coaches polls (maybe higher, we’re currently ranked 20th in the coaches polls), and 23rd in the AP poll (currently ranked 27th in the AP poll). UNLV is going to Hawaii to play the Diamond Head Classic this week. This is the first time I’m going to be able to see them at my house on TV! :D
Anyway, there are a few good teams and the rest are so-so to bad. Saint Mary’s is in that tournament (9-1) and USC is in the classic (5-4 but they destroyed Tennessee). If the rebels win they will get even more national exposure! The 2 games on the winning side of the bracket are going to be broadcast on ESPN2 on Wednesday and Friday! The Mountain West is finally going to get some national exposure.
New Mexico is looking great this year and they’re ranked 12 in the coaches poll, 13 in the AP poll. If they win their next 3 games, they could be ranked 5th or 6th by conference play… They go up against Oral Roberts, then Texas Tech, then Dayton. That’s a pretty rough schedule but they could move up pretty far.
That leaves so much opportunity for UNLV if they win out going into conference play. We have the toughest first 2 games in the conference this year, @BYU and @UNM. We could either lose those 2 games and drop out of the rankings or we could win those 2 games and vault ourselves in to the top 10 for sure.
Main Point: UNLV does have the best chance to get into the final four in the near future out of all of us, next behind them is new mexico

I can't wait to see how conference play turns out for the MWC this year...
We have 4 top 25 contenders in the MWC this year with some other teams that really are overlooked (Colorado St., TCU, Utah). Conference play is gonna be great this year…
Oh and did any of you listen to the UNLV-BYU game on Wednesday night? Tough loss for the Rebels, that makes UNLV 3rd to last in the conference standings and BYU first right now
