Week Five Blogpoll: First Draft Edition

The Blogpoll is set up by MGoBlog and is a collection of bloggers who actually watch the games, which is more then what the coaches, AP, or Harris poll voters can say. The poll is so respected that CBS Sports is behind the poll and it is posted along side the polls that actually count. Here is an explanation of the Blog poll from Brian himself.

Check the poll after the jump, and yes that is Idaho at 25 and Oklahoma is out of the polls, oh and Boise fans do not get mad for being dropped just step up and play someone with that 13th game.

Some general issues:

Idaho should not be ranked. Their win over CSU is not enough to get them a ranking. They’ve beaten the following teams so far:

New Mexico State (horrible)
San Diego State (bad)
Northern Illinois (bad)
Colorado State (average)

and they lost to Washington. Maybe a couple more wins would do it, but so far they haven’t done anything to deserve the ranking.

I think you have BYU too high. Their win over OU and their loss to FSU are both looking worse and worse as the season progresses.

Losing to Washington cost USC several spots.

They didn’t get a ranking for losing to UW. USC got a ranking for beating Ohio State and SJSU (both better than almost anyone on Idaho’s schedule) and they’ve followed up the loss to UW with wins over Cal (better than CSU) and WSU (okay, they’re horrible).

So it’s not the loss to UW that costs Idaho so much as the fact that it was their only chance to prove they deserve a ranking (unlike USC, who had already beaten Ohio State and has consistently proven worthy of a ranking the past 5 years), and they blew it.

I don't think Idaho should be ranked either..

But Northern Illinois is not “bad.” They barely lost to Wisconsin and beat Purdue on the road, and just slaughtered Western Michigan.

YES! SDSU is not horrible! Victory is ours!

Ok, here's my thoughts...

Either you punished Boise State to harsh, or we can argue that Oregon is now better than they were when they played.

Oregon should be ranked higher than they are.

USC and Ohio State should be closer to GT.

I think Utah should be ahead of BYU, or at least right on their heals. Perhaps both belong between Penn State and Nebraska.

Thanks

That is why this is a draft. I put Idaho in for now partly because I was in a hurry and they did look good against CSU. If not Idaho who should be 25? I dont think Missouri’s wins are much better:

Illinois
Furman
Nevada
Bowling Green.

I dunno

All of the “dropped out” teams would probably smoke Idaho.

The last few spots

Are really a toss up among 10-20 teams that could have a shot. At this point in the season we don’t really know.

In these ballots I veiw the #24 and #25 slots as a “look over here” to everyone else, and Idaho certainly looks like they should be on the poll horizon.

I doubt your vote of Idaho would even put them significantly up the ORV column.

I like the Idaho vote.

Agreed

that 25th spot for me has been just that. A team who is under the radar or in a non-BCS league but has a solid record. I am pretty sure if I will be the only voter to put Idaho in their poll. None of the coaches or AP voters have Idaho in at all.

Maybe, but Missouri is 4-0 not 3-1.

They may be all bad wins, but they’re all wins. I’d say Ole Miss’ wins (at least Memphis and Vandy) are better than most of Idaho’s, and their loss (S. Carolina) is better too. In fact, I’d say S. Carolina looks better than Idaho (NC State and Ole Miss w/ loss to Georgia).
