ESPN GameDay Heading to BYU this Week

Now this is big news that ESPN is bringing GameDay to Provo  The last time they came to a Mountain West school was in 2004 when they came to Salt Lake City for the Holy War matching up Utah and BYU.  That was also the year Utah would be the first BCS buster.  The TCU verse BYU matchup is the biggest game of the week; with TCU at seven and BYU 16th in the coaches polls.

Besides this being great exposure for the league it is odd that GameDay is coming to a Mountain West school.  For starters ESPN has zero rights to broadcast the game on televising or radio, and second Kirk Herbstreit is an analyst on the ABC night game.  The 8pm eastern kick for ABC is Texas at Missouri, so I wonder if he will do GameDay and then fly to Columbia, Missouri; he did do this a few weeks back when GameDay was at Boston College and his night game was the Miami, FL at Oklahoma game.

This should bring more exposure to the Mountain West and the people who vote in the polls to tune into the game which is on Versus, and yes still not on DirecTv.  Again, very nice to see the Mountain West getting respect with this matchup featuring a top ten and top twenty team.

Awesome and interesting

Is there anyway ESPN buys the rights to this single game away from Versus? I would love to watch it but not getting versus right now. A MWC match up like this on ESPN would be huge to getting respect in the polls.

Great exposure for the conference, I hope it turns out to be a good game. Sloppy turnover laden football would be a let down for sure.

Doubt it

Even if the money was huge I doubt Versus would sell the rights. I just need to find a place to watch that is not from an internet feed.

If you ever need a place to watch a game head to the U

Games are always on at the Union and the Heritage Center on big screen TV’s. They carry the Mtn, Versus, CBS C, ESPN U, Fox Sports basically everything.

Thats right

I forgot about that, but they may be pissed if I were to show up and turn on a BYU game.

You would probably be ok in the Union

The Union is empty on weekends, the big screen TV by the bowling alley and pool tables is always showing football on Saturday. Even BYU, I watched BYU vs Utah State on it but that was really the only game on that night.

I’m probably watching BYU vs TCU at the Union or the HC after the Utah vs AFA game

BYU will have a huge crowd

If hundreds of fans went to the airport at 2:00 AM to congratulate the team for beating OU, there will be thousands of cougar fans at this one. Lets hope they represent well for the conference.

Expect to see quite a few Ute fans there too.

Hope so

I was there in 2004 when Gameday came to town and it was a huge crowd and a lot of fun. Any football fans should go to this it is great fun.
