Spring Football Preview: UNLV

Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels

Spring practice starts: March 9

Spring game: April 17

3 Things to watch

  1. Quarterback Omar Clayton, who suffered a season-ending knee injury against TCU will be ready for spring ball. However Mike Clausen who filled in for the last month of the season did impress with completing 70-of-125 passes for 767 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. There could be a quarterback battle, but it is safe to assume Clayton will be the starter and Clausen will be used to push Clayton.
  2. Defense, defense, and some more defense. Five of the front seven do return, but the 2008 defense was ranked104th in the nation.
  3. The Rebels loose a lot of offense in running back Frank Summers. Backup running back C.J. Cox had 16 carries for 191 yards and a touchdown, so running back will be a high priority.
