UNLV's Mike Sanford gets contract extension

Mike Sanford is getting a pay raise after winning five games this past year. To some they may say 'so what it was only five games,' but in Sanford's first three years at UNLV we won six total games. The team was one win away against a hapless San Diego State team to become bowl eligible but that did not happen.

Sanford looks to have his players in place and bring Vegas from the cellar of the MWC to right not middle of the pack. His new contract is worth $425,000 per year -- $150,000 in base pay and $137,500 each for media and public appearances. Not sure what those media and public appearances are because $137,500 per appearance seems hefty.

His deal also has a reasonable buy out of $225,000 and his bonuses for bowl appearances did double in this deal. In 2009 Sanford will look to become bowl eligible for the first time during his tenure and the first time for UNLV since they won six games in 2003. Looks like Sanford is going to be at UNLV through 2012.
