Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

03/08/2008 MWC Basketball Preview

It looks like almost every seed is wrapped up so look for teams to just go out and play today and fine tune their lineups for tourney play starting next week.

(19-10) (15-13)

Clune Arena 1PM MT TV:

This game could be huge for San Diego State, because their at-large chances are pretty slim, but by getting a road win and have 20 wins before conference play could help that cause. The Falcons are tough at home and would like to finish above .500 for the year and win here would guarantee that for them. The Aztecs should be motivated and take care of business in this game, but as always the Falcons will make it tough at home for any opponent.
(16-12)(22-6)

Thomas & Mack Center 1PM PT TV:

This could not be better for the Utes they get to play UNLV on the road the week of the conference tournament. While it is not a tournament game this could benefit the Utes to play in the arena they will be playing in next week. UNLV is in a better scenario then SDSU for an at-large birth, but every win is precious in getting an at large berth. UNLV if they play up to their potential should win this game, but Utah should be fired up because a win here would give the Utes an 8-8 conference record.

Star-divide

(23-7)(6-23)

Moby Arena 3:30 PM MT TV:

The Rams are looking at an goose egg in conference play. If the Rams lose they will be one of two teams with no wins in conference to go along with Oregon State from the Pac-10. New Mexico must win this road game to keep their RPI up and their gaudy win total to get an at large chance.

(24-6)(14-14)

Daniel-Meyer Coliseum 7PM CT TV:

This game really has no real meaning to either team in regards to the standings. BYU does struggle on the road and TCU is pretty solid at home with their press defense. BYU pretty much has the golden pass for the NCAA tournament from winning the regular season MWC crown.
