Week 1 Basketball Power Rankings

Every Sunday (usually) I will have have a basketball recap and rankings for all of the MWC teams.

1. (3-0)

The Cougars have just been taking it to their first 3 opponents so far on the year. They have been defeating opponents by an average of 33 points while scoring in the mid 80's for them. So far they have been lead by Trent Plaistad and Lee Cummings with both players averaging at least 14 points per game. They Cougars get to really prove themselves next week with a game at #6 ranked Louisville Cardinals.

2. (3-0)
The Rebels are alos undefeated in this early season, however their wins have not been too impressive. That can be from coach playing a deeper bench which is most likely the case here. UNLV should have little trouble this pre conference season, but such as for BYU the Rebles also play Louisville but they come to UNLV.

Star-divide

3. (4-0)

San Diego State started strong by winning the tournament hosted by Fresno State and defeating the host quite easily. The Aztecs are making the rounds against the San Diego schools by UC San Diego and University of San Diego.

4. (4-0)
The Steve Alford era has started quite well as the Lobos are undefeated as well. They
are currently on their way to 5-0 by destroying LMU at the half. New Mexico has showed up strong in games, but against weak opponents. Their win against Colorado is good for RPI becasue they are in the Big XII but in reality an easy win.

5. (2-1)

The Utes have their loan loss against Washington on their home court in the NIT Season Open Tip Off. The Utes have all ready have seen a change over last year by playing much better defense. Also, Stepen Weigh who was last year pre season Rookie of the Year kinda flopped has stepped up his performance so far.

6. (3-0)

Air Force is starting off better then I thought by being undefeatd. Yes they have played Western States, Dartmouth, and Northern Colorado but for a team that lost the vast majority of their team to graduation they needed to start some where to get wins and confidence.

7. (3-0)

One of the few teams that did not change coaches (even though it was deserved) is off to a good start for the team that finished 9th last year. TCU did destroy Rice who is a decent team in C-USA. We will see how good TCU is when they play at Texas Tech on Wednesday.

8. (1-1)
Even with all everything Brandon Ewing and his partner in crime Brad Jones the Cowboys still lost to Denver last week. They do head on the road against Missouri Valley Conference team Witchita State in return for their home and home series that The Shockers won last year.

9. (2-1)

The Rams have looked terrible and great so far this year. They were destroyed on the road by Montana by losing 75-39 but then in the Top of the World Classic they defeated Oregon State in round one a mild surprise just because how bad the Rams are to be. Then Marcus Walker scored 43 points in the win agains Tennessee State, so maybe he should get the ball more.
