MWC Hoops Early Signing Period

Last week was the early signing period for NCAA basketball, and here are the list of players who have signed to attend their respective school.

Colorado State

The Rams signed one player during the early period and it was a good catch for coach Tim Miles who signed Jessee Carr who plays the guard and comes from Nebraska. Carr averaged 30 points and 10 assists and lead his team to the 2006 Nebraska state championship.

San Diego State

The Aztecs went with a player with more experience with JUCO transfer Mehdi Cheriet.
Cheriet was ranked17 by jucojunction.com while attending Arizona Western College where they were NJCAA Region I champions in his freshman year. Cheriet plays power forward and grew up in France and will join the Aztecs for the 2008-2009 school year and be a junior.

Texas Christian University

The Horned Frogs sign 3 during the early signing period. Their first grab was Kevin Butler who comes from national power Duncanville High School. Butler plays the guard and is large at 6-5 and 200 pounds, and he has a sweet shot from mid range and is quick of the dribble. Their second early signer is another large guard in 6-6
Logan Lancon comes from Clear Creek High School. Their last pick up during the early period is James Blasczyk who is 7-0 but a very lean 200 pounds, but height is something that just gives a team a presence down low and Blasczyk also comes from Texas. Check out the link posted above for a greater detail of the TCU signing class.

University of New Mexico

This class could be the best of the league and one of the best in the nation. Steve Alford's class has been rated as high as #9 in the nation by espn.com. This class so far has 5 players bound for New Mexico and 4 of these players are rated 3 star recruits by Rivals.com and one is a four star rated recruit. The class includes Will Brown a 6-9 forward, Curtis Dennis a 6-5 guard, Nate Garth 6-3 guard, Phillip McDonald 6-5 guard and is the highest rated recruit out of the class, and finally Isaiah Rusher a 6-9 forward. Again check the link above for a detailed list about the recruits.

University of Utah

Jim Boylen brings in 5 new recruits for his first recruiting class and it is right behind the New Mexico class for 2008. The new recruits come from all parts of the country raning from Boylen's old area of Michigan, Kansas and all the way to Texas. The recruits are Jordan Cyphers who is a guard and is a prime candidate for Mr. Basketball of Kansas, Chris Hines who is also a guard and is from Houston, Texas and is considered one of the top 20 players in the state and was recruited by Big 10 and ACC schools, Josh Sharp is a versatile player who can play the 1, 2, or 3 position and comes from Lone Peak High School from local Utah, and the other local recruit is Jace Tavita from Brighton High School and he plays the guard position as well, and finally Jason Washburn is from Michigan and is a 6-11 center and is ranked 86th by Rivals.com.

UNLV

Lon Kruger brings in 2 for the 2008-2009 recruiting class for the Rebels DeShawn Mitchell who comes from the Oak Hill Academy which is a glorified high school and more of a basketball factory. Mitchell averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots last season and should be a force for the Rebels in the fall. Then there is Darris Santee who attended Midland College in Texas and helped them to win teh NJCAA championship last year. Santee will be a junior for the Rebels in the fall.

University of Wyoming

The Cowboys signed one player in this early period in Mahamoud Diakite who is coming from the JUCO ranks and heading into this season was ranked as the 40th best JUCO player. Diakite is able to play the 3, 4, or 5 position and is said by scouts to have NBA talent and potential at the next level.
